Detailed Specifications
Product Overview
The CoaXPress-Over-Fiber (CoF) DEVICE IP is an easy-to-use, high-performance FPGA IP core designed for the camera / sensor side of a link. It implements the CoaXPress 2.0 protocol and transmits it over standard fiber-optic media, complying with the CoaXPress V2.0 standard (JIIA NIF-001-2019) while remaining backward compatible with V1.1 (JIIA NIF-001-2013) and V1.0 (JIIA NIF-001-2010).
Positioned between the image sensor and the fiber physical link, the IP carries image / video data on the high-speed uplink and control and configuration traffic on the low-speed downlink. It connects directly to imaging sensors, allowing existing CXP cameras to be ported onto fiber and Ethernet infrastructure without any change to the CoaXPress protocol — ideal for long-distance, high-bandwidth and multi-sensor applications.
Key Features
- Compliant with CoaXPress over Fiber Bridge Protocol V1.0 (released 2021)
- Supports up to CXP-12 downlink (high-speed) and 41.6 Mbps uplink (low-speed); nGMII follows IEEE Std 802.3 Clause 46
- nGMII supports 10G / 25G options, 10G by default
- Uses the FPGA's built-in high-speed transceivers (GT) as the PHY — no external PHY chip required
- Simple to use: just instantiate the IP and make the basic connections, no complex configuration needed
- Supports the full range of Xilinx FPGAs (GT transceivers required)
CoaXPress-over-Fiber Technology
CoaXPress-over-Fiber is a major extension of the CoaXPress 2.0 specification, enabling an unmodified CoaXPress protocol to be carried over standard Ethernet hardware, connectors and fiber cabling.
The DEVICE IP sits at one end of the link (camera / sensor side): it packetizes sensor image data into CoaXPress frames and sends them out through the GT / fiber, while receiving control and configuration commands from the HOST. Paired with the HOST IP, the entire CXP system — protocol and upper-layer software unchanged — can be extended to fiber-reach distances.
